Gilberta Madge Washburn, age 92, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. She was born April 17, 1925, in Johnson Township, Clark Co, IL, the daughter of Dow Thompson and Dessie Cooley Thompson. On December 19, 1943 she married Gerald Nelson Washburn in Grandview, IL. He passed away on February 20, 1983.

Survivors include her sons, Leon (Christine) Washburn of Champaign, IL; Gary (Margaret) Washburn of Effingham, IL and David (Regina) Washburn of Martinsville, IL; sisters, Mary Pittman of Paris, IL and Doris Pittman of Sacramento, CA; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, three step great great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Victor and Max Thompson.

Mrs. Washburn was a homemaker and a farm wife. She loved working on the farm with her husband and raising chickens. Madge was a member of the Annapolis American Auxiliary for many years. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Bible Holiness Church in Martinsville, IL. She enjoyed gardening and quilting. Madge loved quilting so much that she had a whole room filled with quilts racks to display all her lovely quilts.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at Greenwell Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. prior at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N Washington Street, Martinsville, IL, 62442.
