Carolyn Joan (Smith)  Yocom
Carolyn Joan (Smith) Yocom, age 85, of Casey, IL passed away at 11:18 am on Monday, March 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 30, 1931 in Casey, IL the daughter of John W. Smith and Goldie English Smith. On July 30, 1993 she married James Harold Yocom in Casey, IL. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2015.

Survivors include son, James (Judy) Stifal, Jr. of Shelburn, IN; daughter, Cindy (Pat) Simpson of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Amy Jo Stifal Medsker of Casey, IL; Kyle Simpson of Casey, IL and Brandon (Veronica) Simpson of Marshall, IL; step granddaughter, Delta (Jerry) Mahurin of Sullivan, IN; great grandchildren, Race Medsker, Layka Simpson; step great grandchlildren, Allexis Mahurin, Cassidy Mahurin and Kolbi Mahurin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Norma Cutright.

Carolyn was a 1949 graduate of Casey Township High School. Early in her life she worked for C.A. Williams. Then, she and her sister, Norma, started the Casey Answering and Secretarial Service in 1965 and were in business over 30 years. Carolyn was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Areta Chapter 79 Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of Women of the Moose. She enjoyed bowling, going to school activities, watching plays, concerts and sports, especially when grandsons Kyle and Brandon Simpson were involved. She loved Elvis, frogs, and visiting with family and friends. Her greatest passion was yardwork and gardening and legend has it she could make any flower bloom with the touch of her thumb.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 pm at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
Memorial donations may be made to the Scott Pay It Forward Fund (SPIFF) 508 E. Alabama St., Casey, IL 62420.
