Edwin Everett Gross, “Uncle Flat Top”, age 80, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 1:38 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born December 6, 1935 in Johnson Township, Clark County, IL, the son of Everett Gross and Neva J. Cooper Gross. On November 3, 1956 he married Evalyn Rose Briggs at the Moriah Church of God, Moriah, IL.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Evalyn Gross of Martinsville, IL; son, Dave (Judy) Gross of Martinsville, IL; daughter, Sue Ann (Brad) Scott of Robinson, IL; son, John (Claudia) Gross of Tucson, AZ; brother, Rev. Ronald (June) Gross of Oblong, IL; grandchildren, Jason (Nicole) Gross, Amy (Nate) Evans, Siera (Alex) Pleasant, Brendan Scott, Bryant (Kelsey) Scott, Brayden Scott, Brody Scott, Branton Scott, Angelia Gross, Nicolas Gross and Jonathan Gross; great grandson, Clayton Evans and many generations of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister in law, Eugene and Marion Gross and great nephews, Travis Gross and Roger Coberly.

Edwin was a 1954 graduate of Casey High School. He served his country in the US Army from 1958 – 1960. Edwin was a farmer of the soil and a farmer of our hearts and souls. Farming was his livelihood, favorite pastime and hobby. “Grandad” enjoyed putting together a good jigsaw puzzle and playing a lively game of Carom with his grandchildren. Edwin also delivered equipment for Casey Implement Co. He was a former Orange Twp. Trustee and a member of Clark County Farm Bureau. Edwin was a lifetime member of the Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained Elder and served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was faithful in his attendance, tithes and offerings; he was most proud that his grandchildren are the 7th generation of his family to attend the Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for all family and friends will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Small officiating. Prior to his memorial service Edwin will be transported from his family farm by tractor and hay wagon for a private family graveside service in Butternut Cemetery rural Martinsville, IL with his nephew Rev. Dan Gross officiating.
