Jack Dean Maxey, 82, of Casey, IL passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born on September 12, 1933 in Hunt City, IL, the son of Ivan Floyd Maxey and Lorene Fear Maxey. On March 22, 1955, he married Cherry Brackett in Dundas, IL.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Cherry Maxey of Casey, IL; daughters, Julia Tomlinson and husband Randy of Olney, IL and Gail Lorton and husband Jerry of Casey, IL; sister, Carole Schafer and husband Ed of Newton, IL; granddaughters, Tera Jo (Matt) Scales, Tausha Sue (Christopher) Green, Tory Lynn Fritts, Mackenzie (Ryan) Denton, Leslie Talia, Brooke (Jeremy) Cramer and Bailey Lorton; and great grandchildren, Jesse Fritts, Logan Green, Meah Elizabeth Scales, Matthew Wyatt Scales, Lainie Isabel Fritts, Kimber Rose Keefer, Hadley Tulane Denton, Drey Denton, Dezi Denton, Evan Joy Denton, Abram Slankard, and Brody Jack Cramer. He was preceded by his parents, son, Bruce Dean Maxey, brothers, Darvin, Jerry and Don Maxey, and sister, Joyce Maxey.
Jack was a 1953 graduate of Newton High School, where he was a 4 year football Varsity Letterman and a 4 year band member. He lived with his grandparents, S.B. and Lu Maxey, while attending a one room schoolhouse in Oblong until the 7th grade. Jack was a US Army Veteran and member of the Casey VFW Post 5762 and Greenup American Legion Post 566. He worked as a material handler for Trailmobile in Charleston, IL until its closure. Jack was a longtime member of the Casey First Baptist Church.
Graveside memorial services and inurnment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Honey Cemetery, rural Newton, IL.
