Raymond Eugene Wagner, 85, of Toledo, IL formerly of Yale, IL passed away at 7:35 am on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born May 11, 1929 in Hunt City, IL, the son of William Wagner and Stella Agnes Fear Wagner. On June 26, 1949 he married Esther M. Finney in Martinsville, IL. She passed away on October 25, 2004. He later married Nadine Carroll on December 31, 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Wagner of Toledo, IL; sons, Phillip (Patty) Wagner of Marshall, IL; David Wagner of Indianapolis, IN; Mark Wagner of Westfield, IL; Nathan (Teresa) Wagner of Carlisle, AR; James Wagner of Casey, IL; Jonathan Wagner of Oblong, IL; daughters, Danila Wagner of Indianapolis, IN; Pauletta (Jimmy) Anderson of Simpsonville, SC and Esther Mertice Wagner of Simpsonville, SC; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfathers, Fred Newkirk and Sumner Rude; wife, Esther Wagner; daughters, Pauline Wagner and Rachel Wagner; daughters-in-law, Phyllis Wagner and Dawn Wagner, and half-brother, Floyd Newkirk.
Raymond was a retired minister and farmer. He was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Casey, IL. “He raised cows, corn and kids,” is the response his family gave when asked what Raymond did. He had a knack for being able to do anything. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his service in the ministry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Meachum and Rev. David Snow officiating. Burial will follow in the Brockville Cemetery, Hunt City, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
