Mary Katherine Ax, 87, of Terre Haute, IN, formerly of Martinsville, IL, passed away at 7:41 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Springhill Village in Terre Haute, IN. She was born February 10, 1927 in Brocton, IL, the daughter of Patrick Madigan and Rosa Carroll Madigan. On November 25, 1948 she married John William Ax in Charleston, IL.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, William Ax of Terre Haute, IN; sons, Robert Glenn Ax and wife Sandra of North Liberty, IN and Dennis Wayne Ax and wife Maryann of Terre Haute, IN; grandson, Ethan Allen Ax, his wife Robyn and their daughter, Avery Dakota Ax of Bloomington, IL; granddaughter, Julie Lynn Rose and husband Brandon of Aurora, CO; and sister, Pat Yargus of Clark Center, IL. She was preceded by her parents and two brothers, Jerry and John Madigan.
Mary worked as a medical records assistant at AP&S Clinic in Terre Haute for more than 20 years. She attended St. Margaret Mary and St. Joseph University Parish in Terre Haute, IN. Mary and William enjoyed flying and were members of the EAA Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 83 of Terre Haute and the AOPA Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. CST on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Father Martin Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. CST on Friday prior to the service at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
