Obituary for Paul Douglas Flowers

Paul Douglas Flowers, 85, of Westfield, IL went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born August 13, 1926 in Arjay, KY, the son of John and Stella Poston Flowers. On August 20, 1954, he married Linda Lee Wilder in Tazewell, TN.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Linda Flowers of Westfield, IL; daughters, Paula Phelps and husband Mike of Westfield, IL; Pamela Davidson of Casey, IL and Amy Rardin and husband Andy of Indianapolis, IN; foster son, Bob Dunning of Charleston, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Reddicks, Tara Tanner, Shane Phelps, Chris Navel, Nate Rardin, Jay Rardin, Lindi Rardin, Becky Austin and Mandy Lemmon; great grandchildren, Lacie Enlow, Abby Reddicks, Jake Reddicks, Josh Tanner, Charli Tanner, Taylor Navel, Eric Navel, Cory Navel, Alex Rodriguez, AJ Rodriguez, Andrew Rodriguez, Mercedez Austin and Cole Lemmon. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Buster Flowers and John Flowers, Jr., sisters Violet Garrison and Daisy Garrison and great grandchildren, Angel and Wade Reddicks.

Paul was a graduate of Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, KY and had been a Southern Baptist Minister for fifty-five years. He and Linda faithfully served the Lord, pastoring the following churches: Flat Lick Baptist Church, Flat Lick, KY; Wooster Baptist Church, Wooster, OH; Frankfort Baptist Church, Frankfort, IN; Gettysburg Baptist Church, Dayton, OH; Enon Baptist Church, Ashmore, IL; Sullivan Baptist Church, Sullivan, IL; Westfield Baptist Church, Westfield, IL; First Southern Baptist Church, Paris, IL; Toledo Baptist Church, Toledo, IL and Ashmore Baptist Church, Ashmore, IL. He was currently a member of the First Baptist Church, Martinsville, IL. Paul honorably served his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman, a devoted husband and a loving dad and papaw. Most of all, he was a good and faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A Homegoing Celebration of his Life and Ministry will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Martinsville, IL with Pastor Tom Marsh and Pastor Art Orndorff officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Westfield, IL with Graveside Military Rites by the Westfield American Legion and the Kansas American Legion. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the First Baptist Church, 5 Trotter Lane, Martinsville, IL.
