Evelyn Parker Davis, 90, of Mattoon, Illinois formally of Casey, Illinois passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center surrounded by immediate family and pastor. Evelyn had been a resident at Gowin Parc since July of 2012.
She was born July 23, 1924 in Villa Ridge, Illinois the daughter of the late Frank H. and Selma Louise (Endicott) Parker. After graduating from Southern Illinois University and beginning her teaching career she married Robert Eugene Davis of Casey on December 10, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2005.
Survivors include son, Kevin, and wife, Alyson, and their children, Quintin and Payton, of Charleston, IL, many devoted nieces, nephews, friends, and special caregiver, Wanda Chapman. The Gowin Parc staff was also a dedicated part of Evelyn’s care. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepmother, Leona Parker, one brother, Frank Parker, Jr. and sisters Norma Alley and Ella Lane.
Her family was her primary focus and she enjoyed watching her grandsons’ activities, playing Bridge, and vacationing with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Evelyn had a passion for golf where she met many close friends, was a board member of the Illinois Women’s Golf Association (IWGA), and served as a Rules Chairman. She was presented the Hall of Fame award in 2009 after fifty years of service on the IWGA board. Evelyn was a member of the Casey County Club, Casey Women’s Club, Casey United Methodist Church and more recently she attended the Janesville Wesleyan Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2014 at the Markwell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Penelope H. Barber officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
The family has been so blessed to experience a special love and warm memories with Evelyn that they ask that you simply share that love with others, particularly your own mothers.
