Bill was US Army WWII veteran. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star and many Battle Stars. In Section II in the AWARD OF THE SILVER STAR it read, “Although he was suffering from a wound received earlier in the day, Private First Class Brubaker took a position on the company’s left flank and began placing effective automatic rifle fire upon the enemy. Disregarding his own personal safety, Private First Class Brubaker steadfastly remained in his hazardous position repulsing several enemy infiltration attempts. Refusing medical treatment for his wound, Private First Class Brubaker, then made several trips to the bottom of a hill where he secured grenades vitally needed to defend the company’s position. Finally overcome by loss of blood, he fell unconscious and was evacuated by litter bearers. Private First Class Brubaker’s gallant action was an important factor in repelling the enemy assault and a source of inspiration to all concerned.”

Bill was a member of the Westfield American Legion. He worked as a truck driver and provided service transportation for Schrock Cabinets. He was a member of the Westfield Baptist Church.

At his request, there will be no services. His ashes will be buried in the Carlyle Cemetery, Carlyle, IL at a later date.
