Obituary for Harry Junior Hewitt

Harry Junior Hewitt, age 94, of Westfield, IL formerly of Chicago, IL passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 12, 1923 in Curran, IL the son of Harry Elmer Hewitt Sr. and Ellen Pauline Snook Hewitt. On December 28, 1950 he married Lois Eileen Cullis in Chicago, IL. She passed away on June 18, 2010.

Survived by his daughter, Joyce (Steve) Tarver of Westfield, IL; grandchildren: Valeri (Russel) Stroner, Paula (Darren) Prusinski and Thomas (Katherine) Cypranowski; great grandchildren: Alyssa, Trevor, Ava, Teagan, Tayln, Emma and Jacob; step grandchildren: Steve (Missy) Tarver, Jr., Ron (Theresa) Tarver; step great grandchildren: Ryan, Savanna and Tristan; brother: William Phillip “Bill” Hewitt of Springfield, IL; sisters: Edith Marie Lane of Bement, IL and Harriet Wanita Faith of Riverside, CA, several nephews, nieces and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Lois Hewitt; brothers: Dale Thomas, Ross Emery, Edward Wayne, Robert Lee and Franklin Lynn Hewitt; sisters: Mary Louise Crowder, Dorothy Irene Packingham and Jesse Mae Sorenson and stepdaughter, Diana Zultner.

Harry was a WWII US Army veteran. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne 517 Parachute Regiment Company G at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Harry was retired after 30 years as a Chicago City Policeman. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police Chicago Lodge #7, American Legion Chicago Lodge #207, Illinois Police Association, Retired Police Association, St. Jude Police League and the Casey VFW Post #5762.

Harry’s family would like to share their appreciation and gratitude for the unconditional love, care, support, courage and strength Joyce and Steve have given Harry by sharing their home and life with him every day for the past twelve years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Matthew Jukola officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 – 3 p.m. prior the service at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 E. Colorado Ave., Casey, IL. Burial with graveside military rites will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Chicago, IL.
