Obituary for Hobert "Hobie" B Glosser

Hobert "Hobie" B  Glosser
Hobert B. “Hobie” Glosser, age 93, of Casey, IL passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 7, 1923 in Hazel Dell, IL, the son of William Clark Glosser and Helen Beatrice Townsend Glosser. On February 19, 1945 he married the love of his life, Alma Alice Lashbrook in Marshall, IL. She passed away on April 5, 2015.

Survivors include son, Rusty Glosser and wife Phyllis of Marshall, IL; daughter, Mary Alice Tucker and husband Dale of Greenup, IL; grandchildren, Jodie (Glosser) Myers, Kelly (Glosser) Loveall, Kurtis Glosser, Jill (Tucker) Vaughn and Katie (Tucker) Camp; thirteen great grandchildren, his church family and many friends. Hobie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of seventy years, Alice Glosser; daughter, Sue Glosser; sister, Ida Miller and four infant siblings.

Hobie was a 1942 Graduate of Casey High School. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII, 1943 – 1945. Upon his return to Casey, IL, Hobie worked as a welder for Pipefitters Local 157, Terre Haute, IN for over forty years. He also owned and operated Finney and Glosser Blacksmith Shop. Hobie was a member of the First Christian Church in Casey where he served as a trustee, deacon and on the property committee for over thirty years. Most recently he was a member of the Willis Chapel Church, Casey, IL. He was a charter member of the Casey VFW, a 32nd degree Mason and a member and a Master Mason for over fifty years of Casey Lodge #442. Hobie was a dedicated and faithful member of the Casey Volunteer Fire Department for over forty-two years, where he had served as the Chief and Assistant Chief. Hobie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service for Hobie and a memorial service for Alice will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Casey First Christian Church with Rev. Dan Ledley officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW, Hazel Dell American Legion and Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Casey First Christian Church, 200 SE Eighth St., Casey, IL with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. by the Casey Masonic Lodge.
