Thelma Louise (Dale) Ellis, age 83, of Casey, IL passed away at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at her home in the company of her husband, Rev. Gene Ellis. Thelma was born on August 15, 1932 in rural Advance, MO, the daughter of William Lester and Paralie Lilie (Rhodes) Dale.

Thelma and Gene were married on March 6, 1955 in Cape Girardeau, MO by Rev. Lester Dale, Thelma’s brother. To this union was born their son, Michael Dean Ellis.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Gene Ellis of Casey, IL; son, Mike Ellis and wife Durinda (Hickox) of Casey, IL; granddaughters, Amanda (Ellis) Washburn and husband Chris and their children, William Emory and Grace Ann Washburn of Evansville, IN and Lindsey (Yates) Ellis Shull and husband Colby of Utah; brothers, Dillard Dale and wife Pat of Cape Girardeau, MO and Gene Dale and wife Judy of Jackson, MO; sister, Elizabeth Smith of Jackson, MO and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Rev. Lester Dale and Hurl Dale; sister, Wilma Wyat and grandson, Michael Scott Ellis on September 27, 2009.

Thelma was a 1950 graduate of Advance High School in Advance, MO. She worked in banking at Casey, Centralia and Marshall for most of her working career. Thelma was a proud pastors wife and held many different positions in the churches they served. She taught Sunday School and worked in Vacation Bible School. Thelma and Gene were Senior Adult Leaders at the First Baptist Church in Casey for many years.

Thelma served as President of the Women’s Missionary Union and President, for one term, of the The Pastor’s Wives organization for the Illinois Baptist State Association. She was an avid Bible reader and has read through the Bible, verse by verse, over 20 times. Thelma was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Casey, Casey, IL. She will be sadly missed by her loving family and her many friends.

The Lord said “I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go, I will come and receive you unto myself for where I am there you will be.” Thelma is in the presence of the Lord right now. She does not have pain, nor suffering any more, forever. On July 26, 2016 the Lord came and took Thelma home to be with Him. We shall see her again when the Lord come for us. Make sure you are ready, by receiving Jesus Christ as your savior and Lord. (Romans 10:9)

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the First Baptist Church with nephew, Dr. J.D. Davis, Rev. Jon McDonald and Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the First Baptist Church, 101 E. Alabama St., Casey, IL.
