Jeannette McCarty Dickerson, 71, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 1:47 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN.

She was born Alma Jeannette McCarty on October 19, 1944 in Evansville, IN, the daughter of Robert Edwin and Marie Maxine Goldman McCarty. On May 25, 1963 she married Walter L. Dickerson in Princeton, IN.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Walter L. Dickerson of Martinsville, IL; father, Bob McCarty of Frisco, IN; a wonderful sister, Patti M. Davis and husband Donnie of Patoka, IN; grandchildren, Zachary Dickerson, Charlene Lange Reilly and husband Jason and Keiffer P. Dickerson; great grandsons, Owen and Jase Reilly; son, Jeffrey Alan Dickerson of Columbus, IN; nieces, Neeley Muncy, Maxi Bradshaw and Shawn Antell; nephews, Dan Davis, Mike Davis, Robbie Hull and Keith Antell; her beagle, Babee Ann and former daughters in law, Debbye Butler and Kathleen Dickerson (mother of Zachary and Keiffer), Cheryl Lange (mother of Charlene); “extra” granddaughter, Morgan Lange; several cousins and “adopted” son, Edward A. Dill. She was preceded in death by her mother, beloved daughter, Cindy Ann Dickerson; sister, Karen J. Hull; brother, Robert E. McCarty, Jr., father and mother in law, Walter and Virginia Dickerson and sister in law, Patty Antell.

Jeannette was a 1962 graduate of Princeton High School, Princeton, IN and attended Lockyear’s Business College. She found this to be very useful as she was the bookkeeper for Walt’s Repair, a business she and her husband operated for almost 30 years. Jeannette was the former editor of the Martinsville Planet newspaper, a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 515, a Chamber of Commerce officer, the Sportsmen’s Club and a charter member of the Ding Dong Club, all of Martinsville, IL. She was also a Bible school teacher and a Brownie Scout leader. Jeannette was an avid NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan, she loved reading, watching old movies and spending time with family and friends.

Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with Rev. Brian Miller officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cindy Ann Dickerson Memorial Endowment Scholarship at Lake Land College, 5001 Lake Land Blvd, Mattoon, IL 61938 for the continuing education of Martinsville High School senior girls. This memorial honors the life of their daughter who passed away in 1986 at the age of 20.
