John Mark Nees, age 87, of Greenup, IL passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born December 7, 1928 at Walla Walla near Greenup, IL the son of Leo Vernon Nees and Bertha Fay Neeley Nees. On June 14, 1953 he married Martha Havens in Greenup, IL. She survives.
To this union three children were born, twins, Don Nees (deceased) and Donna (Danny) Harper of Greenup, IL and David (Diane) Nees of Greenup, IL; grandchildren, Danelle (Christopher) Snidle of Sigel, IL; Justin (Kimberly) Harper of Yale, IL and Jordan (Marlania) of Toledo, IL; great grandchildren, Derby Roan, Jillian and Dakota Snidle, Elijah, Luke and Adelyn Harper and Molly and Maybree Harper; sister, Lela Carr of Hidalgo, IL; three nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Don and brother in law, Fred Carr.
John was baptized and became a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church at an early age. He was a 1949 graduate of Greenup High School and a lifelong farmer in the Greenup area.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Harper officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
