Condolences

Condolence From: Marilyn (Perisho) Angel
Condolence: My Sympathy's go out to all of the family, I never knew Bill personally, but his mother was my first grade teacher back in the 1950's, she made a lasting impact on me in school that first year and I have never forgotten her since, in fact I still have my report card from her class signed by her. I too did very well in her class with my grades, but I loved to be with her so much and hated to move on to 2nd graded, I used to go by her home and visit with her when school was out. I am so sorry to hear that her son has passed on but after reading his obituary he sure lived a full life, more than some people every have or ever will. My grandmother was also a teacher in Martinsville many years before Mrs. Mauk or before I started first grade in school, her name was Myrtie (Pendleton) Perisho she was born in the late 1800's and taught school in a one room school house and got there by horse and buggy, she lived in Martinsville her whole life, and passed away in 1972. Just some history and memory's of mine that I wanted to share with you. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the William Mauk family, sincerely Marilyn (Perisho) Angel kam500@charter.net

Condolence From: Mike (Strawberry) Spittler
Condolence: The Spittlers and Mauks go back a long time. My Dad, Kelly, worked at the Mauk Drug Store in the early and mid 1930s. At a very early age Dad would take me to the Drug Store where there was always a Strawberry ice cream cone for me. I supposed they were free to everyone. Because this was my favorite, thus the nick name that Bill never forgot. I was still Strawberry the last time I saw him.
Dad. being 14 years older than Bill was like a big brother according to Bill. Likewise I am 13 years younger than Bill so was the little brother. As a little guy the beautiful Carolyn was always my girl friend. She made me feel like I was 10 feet tall. Never went to town but what I had to go to the Drug Store. Seeing Carolyn and an ice cream cone were special treets. Later Mrs Mauk was my first and second grade teacher. I don't know if there was some favoritism involved but I never got better grades in following years.
When Dad started farming on his own Guy fired his current tenant and Dad became his farmer. That continued for a few years, then Guy sold Dad the farm and carried the contract, with nothing down as I remember.
I am so sorry I never got to meet any of Bill's children.
All of the members of the Mauk family were very special people. Gone, but not forgotten.
