Shirley Rose (Cox) Hollensbe, 77, of Hazel Dell, IL passed away at 4:42 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. She was born April 17, 1938 in Hazel Dell, IL the daughter of Burl James Cox and Imogene Elberta Plunkett Cox. On July 1, 1956 she married Larry Allen Hollensbe in the Hazel Dell Church of God, Hazel Dell, IL.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Larry A. Hollensbe of Hazel Dell, IL; sons, Scott (Monica) Hollensbe of Hazel Dell, IL and Randy Hollensbe of Hazel Dell, IL; grandchildren, Cody and Ashley Hollensbe of Hazel Dell, IL; brother, Jim (Donna) Cox of Casey, IL; sisters, Jean Hunt of Belton, TX and Connie (Steve) Berry of Ashmore, IL; brothers in law, Russell Floyd, Jr. of Mattoon, IL and Tom (Becky) Hollensbe of Tuscola, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Tony A. Hollensbe in 1985; sister, Linda Floyd and brother in law, Bill Hunt.
Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Casey High School. In the early 1960’s she worked as a secretary at the Casey High School and then for Resch Law Office in Casey, IL. She later maintained the computers in the library at Eastern Illinois University and retired as a secretary for Maulding Trucking Company in Casey, IL.
Shirley was a member of the Blue Grass Church of God where she served as the church secretary and pianist. She was a devoted minister’s wife, a wonderful mother and especially loved to spoil her grandchildren. Shirley never forgot a birthday and always made sure she mailed cards for special occasions.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Hazel Dell South Cemetery, Hazel Dell, IL with Rev. Daniel Harper officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. at the cemetery prior to the service.
