Obituary for LeRoy McKinzie

LeRoy   McKinzie
LeRoy McKinzie, 73, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 3:37 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Carle Hospital, Urbana, IL. He was born on October 27, 1941 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Charley William McKinzie and Cora Rosalie Pumphrey McKinzie. On December 17, 1961 he married Wanda Marie Reed in Martinsville, IL.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Wanda McKinzie of Mattoon, IL; daughter, Julie Lynn Nichols of Urbana, IL; son, David Allen McKinzie and wife Christina of Dade City, FL; son, Charles Lee McKinzie of Mattoon, IL; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
LeRoy’s mother died when he was eighteen months old and his grandmother, Hester McKinzie, raised him in the Casey area. He was a 1959 graduate of Casey High School. LeRoy was a retired union laborer and carpenter. He was a member of the Labors Local #159 in Decatur, IL. LeRoy could build, plumb, mechanic, wire or fix about anything. He was always willing to go out of his way to help anyone in need. LeRoy was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
