Obituary for Phyllis Rosalia (Comer) Applegate

Phyllis Rosalia (Comer) Applegate, 94, of Casey, IL passed away at 9:37 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. She was born on June 4, 1920 in Casey, IL, the daughter of Thomas Nathan Comer and Elsie K. Stults Comer. On December 2, 1939 she married Lowell Dean Applegate in St. Charles, MO. He passed away on May 1, 1989.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Kay Applegate of Casey, IL; brother Jerry Comer and wife Sue of St. Petersburg, FL; nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brothers, Thomas D. Comer, Harold (John) Comer, Bob Comer, Jack Comer and sister, Virginia June Comer.
Mrs. Applegate was a 1938 graduate of Casey High School. She was a member of the Casey First Baptist Church in Casey, IL. She worked as a clerk for Shawver’s Clothing Store for over 20 years and was a co-owner of the KZ Newsstand with her husband. She was a loving wife and devoted mom to Janet.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Ellis and Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday morning prior to the service at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
