Larry Gene Jones, 70, of Casey, IL passed away at 2:35 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at his home. He was born on December 7, 1944 in Effingham, IL, the son of Bobbie Gene Jones and Roberta Fern Cougill Jones. On January 25, 1964 he married Donna Mae Taylor in Ashmore, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Donna M. Jones of Casey, IL; son, Steven G. Jones and wife Angie of Effingham, IL; daughter, Lora A. Jones of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Jordan Jones, Payton Jones and Macci Wildbur; sisters, Jo Anne Hires of Fisher, IL and Joyce McDaniel and husband John of Champaign, IL. He was preceded by his parents and son, Brian Gene Jones.
Larry was a 1963 graduate of Casey High School and a 1967 graduate of the University of Illinois. Larry and Donna were lifelong farmers in the Casey area. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Casey and a Cumberland County Farm Bureau board member. He served on the Cumberland County Board of Review for two terms and was a Union Township Trustee for over twenty years. Larry enjoyed playing golf and mowing the lawn. After his retirement Larry and Donna enjoyed spending winters in Florida.
At his request a graveside service and burial will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with Rev. Marvin Oakley officiating.
