James Harold "Jim"  Yocom
James Harold “Jim” Yocom, 88, of Casey, IL went to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:24 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, IL. He was born October 3, 1926 in Niantic, IL, the son of Russell Bice Yocom and Martha Wright Yocom. On March 2, 1946 he married Norma Jean Fitzpatrick. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before she passed away on June 4, 1992. Together they raised three sons, Larry, David and Rick. He later married Carolyn Smith Stifal on July 30, 1993 in Casey, IL. They joined families and he gained a son, Jim and a daughter, Cindy. Jim and Carolyn were blessed with 21 years of marriage.
Jim was a 1944 graduate of Casey High School. Upon graduation he worked for Ohio Oil Company before joining the US Army Air Corp in 1945. He proudly served his country overseas and at home before his honorable discharge in 1947. Jim returned to Ohio Oil Company which later became Marathon Pipeline Company. He worked for 38 years in Illinois, Indiana and Texas before retiring in 1982. Jim was a WWII veteran and a member of the Casey VFW Post #5762. He was a member of the Casey Masonic Lodge #442 AM & FM for over 50 years, he was a past Worthy Patron of the Loyal Order of the Eastern Star and was a 32nd degree Mason. Jim was a member of the Clark County Shrine Clown Unit, the Casey Lions Club and the Casey United Methodist Church. He proudly spent several years as a member of the Casey Township Cemetery Board. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Yocom of Casey, IL; children, Larry Yocom of Clinton, IN; David Yocom and wife Karen of Casey, IL; Rick Yocom and wife Angie of Casey, IL; James “Jim” Stifal and wife Judy of Shelburn, IN; Cindy Simpson and husband Pat of Casey, IL; grandchildren, John Taylor and wife Tiffany of Memphis, TN; Michelle Yocom Chaora and husband Anesu of Indianapolis, IN; Katie Yocom Guffey of Casey, IL; Jordan Hennings of Indianapolis, IN; Courtney Yocom Foster and husband Erich of Midland, TX; Tyler Yocom and wife Brooke of Louisville, KY; Caitlin Yocom and fiancé Lance Henry of Midland, TX; Kelsey Washburn and husband Chad of Casey, IL; Aubrey Claypool and husband Ethan of Marshall, IL; Jarrod Lorton of Casey, IL; Amy Jo Medsker of Casey, IL; Kyle Simpson of Casey, IL; Brandon Simpson and wife Veronica of Marshall, IL; and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Norma Jean Yocom; brother, Billy L. Yocom and sister, Betty J. Yocom Elliott.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Markwell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Penelope H. Barber officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
