Lida Virginia Tipsword, 100, of Casey, IL passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. She was born September 15, 1914 in Union Center, IL, the daughter of Reet Orlando Black and Edna Thompson Black. On March 24, 1931 she married Jesse Cleo Tipsword in Toledo, IL. He passed away February 11, 1960.
Survivors include her daughters, Bonnie “Maxine” Tiffin and husband Maurice of Casey, IL, Mae Brown and husband Walter “Brownie” of Greenup, IL and Barbara Handley of Mesa, AZ; sons, Dick Tipsword and wife Sandy and William Tipsword and wife Paula, all of Casey, IL; 30 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and 32 great great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, husband, son, Richard Tipsword; daughters, Betty Shields, Patty Ann Simpson and Clara Walters; son in law, Neil Handley; brothers, Roy, Sam, Dudley, Darrell, Bill, Dale and Max Black; sister, Ruby Short; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Lida retired after working for 25 years as an assembler for Ettlebrick Shoe Factory in Casey, IL. She was a member of the Word of Life Church and faithfully read the Bible. She enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, quilting and needlepoint. She fed the birds and squirrels in her yard and protected them by chasing the cats away!
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Ken “Bud” Wade officiating. Burial will follow in the Bell Cemetery, Greenup, IL. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N Central Ave., Casey, IL.
