Obituary for Johnie Eugene "John" Jodry

Johnie Eugene "John" Jodry
Johnie Eugene “John” Jodry, 72, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born December 28, 1941 in Martinsville, IL, the son of James William Jodry and Pauline Violet Earlywine Jodry. On October 6, 1972 he married Lucy Jane Smiley Jodry in Paris, IL.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Jane Smiley Jodry of Martinsville, IL; son, James William “Bill” Jodry and friend Robin Cornell of Martinsville, IL; daughter, Teresa “Terri” Cribelar and husband Brent of Casey, IL; son, Rocky Turner and wife Lori of Martinsville, IL; sister, Diane Turner and husband Darrell of Palestine, IL; sister in law, Nancy Jodry of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Kayla Jodry, Kylee Jodry, Mike Siverly and fiancé Katie Brandmeyer, Joshua Turner and girlfriend Katie Finch, Amanda Turner, Kaycee Turner and great granddaughter, Tessa Siverly. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Billie Ray Jodry; sister, Linda Jodry Smith and grandson, Scott Eugene Siverly.
John was a 1959 graduate of Martinsville High School. He was a US Army Vietnam War veteran serving his country in Korea during the war. John was a retired Road Commissioner for the Martinsville Township for 39 years and served on the Martinsville Fire Department for 22 years. He was a lifetime member of the Martinsville American Legion. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandsons; he always said they spent more time in the water than their fishing lures. One time John and his friend Jack were turkey hunting (they never had any luck hunting together), as they were sitting in the tent on five gallon buckets Jack got off the first shot and John fell of his bucket and shot a hole through the top of the tent. Another time Bill set up a turkey decoy trying to get John and Jack to shoot, they figured out it was a joke when they noticed the “Butterball Turkey” coupon stapled to the head of the decoy. John was a fun loving guy who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2104 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Rev. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites by the Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
Memorial donations may be made to the Martinsville Fire Department, 8 N. Union St., Martinsville IL 62442 or Heartland Nursing Home, PO Box 10, Casey, IL 62420.
