Paul Philippi, 89, of Casey, IL passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born June 11, 1925 in rural Casey, IL, the son of Charles Edward Philippi and Lydia Short Philippi. On September 4, 1949 he married Patricia Cunningham in Casey, IL. She passed away on May 29, 2000.
Survivors include his sons, Gary (Jeanie) of Arcola, IL; Ken (Peggy) of Washington, MI and Steve (Wendy) Philippi of Casey, IL; twin sister, Pauline (Mathew) Cicero of Rockford, IL; grandchildren, Tyler (Ashley) Philippi of Omaha, NE; Andy (Lisa) Philippi of Chicago, IL and Kelly Dittmar of Maple Grove, MN and great grandson, Lincoln Philippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son, Richard Philippi.
Paul retired after 60 years of farming. He was a member of the Casey Lutheran Church where he volunteered and held several Church offices. Paul served as a Crooked Creek Township tax assessor for over seven years; was a Crooked Creek Township board member for eight years and a former Farm Bureau member. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a passion for woodworking and was a master woodworker building tables and shelves in his garage work shop.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Terrence Baeder officiating. Burial will follow in the Ruffner Cemetery, rural Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
