Obituary for Marjorie M. Thompson

Marjorie M.   Thompson
Heaven has gained a dedicated servant and accomplished pianist as Mrs. Marjorie M. Thompson, 78, of Martinsville, IL passed from her earthly home and joined her Lord and Saviour and her family at 4:55 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Burnsides Community Health Center in Marshall, IL. She was born May 17, 1936 in Marshall, IL, the daughter of Raymond Victor Claypool and Aura Amelia Combs Claypool. On January 17, 1956 she married James Wilhoit “Red” Thompson in Altamont, IL. He passed away on September 9, 2002.

Survivors include son, James Randall “Randy” Thompson and wife Terri of Martinsville, IL; daughters, Virginia Louise “Ginny Lou” Haney and husband Bill of Marshall, IL and Sandra Lynn Black and husband Randy of Martinsville, IL; brothers, Lloyd Claypool and wife Donna of Estes Park, CO and Carl Claypool of West Terre Haute, IN; sister, Crystal Logan and husband Glenn of Martinsville, IL; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, many nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Shelly Ann Thompson; brothers, Donald Claypool and Dennis Claypool and sisters, Audrey Shafer and June Bubeck.

Marge was a 1954 graduate of Marshall High School. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Martinsville, where she has always served as the pianist, organist and choir director. An accomplished pianist who learned to play by ear at the age of four, Marge taught piano lessons to many. She loved to play and played for nursing homes, revivals, weddings and funerals as well as the church choir. She definitely knew how to draw a crowd and played music any time the opportunity arose, even when traveling on cruise ships. Marge had a great love of her church and community and volunteered her time and delivered Peace Meal and Meals on Wheels. Marge was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the First Baptist Church with Bro. Art Orndorff and Bro. Randy Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the First Baptist Church, 5 Trotter Lane, Martinsville, IL.
