Zita Glora Zimmerman, 83, of Decatur, IL formerly of Martinsville, IL passed away at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, IL. She was born July 6, 1930 in the home place in Parker Twp., Clark County, IL, the daughter of Roy Calvin Newlin and Mattie Ethel Hall Newlin. On August 9, 1947 she married Conrad L. Zimmerman in Martinsville, IL. He passed away on October 19, 1968.
Survivors include her children, Kerry D. Zimmerman of Urbana, IL; Larry E. (Mary Ellen) Zimmerman of Murfreesboro, TN; Connie L. (Charles) Doty of Decatur, IL; Debra K. Zimmerman of Decatur, IL and Wendy Jo (Frank) Sherman of Decatur, IL; brother, George (Loretta) Newlin of Decatur, IL; sister, Nita L. Hills of Martinsville, IL; sisters in law, Lucille Newlin of Casey, IL and Gladys Newlin of Cheyenne, WY; fourteen grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren, one on the way and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Alta Newlin, Mayme Newlin, Mary Jane Blunk; brothers, Clarence Lee Newlin, Edgar Newlin, Henry Dewyane Newlin and Ernest Newlin and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Zimmerman had worked for JC Penney, Kohl’s and Eastside Star Locker Grocery in Decatur, IL. She had retired from the Decatur Herald & Review newspaper at the age of 81. Zita was a 1948 graduate of Martinsville High School. She was an avid mushroom hunter and enjoyed picking strawberries and blackberries. Zita loved yard sales and reading. She made wonderful pies, persimmon pudding and her famous macaroni and cheese for her family and friends to enjoy. She was a special person with a loving heart.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
