Ethel L. Norman, age 92, of Bangor, MI formerly of Martinsville, IL passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Tendercare Portage in MI. She was born June 25, 1921 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Arthur and Louise (Hummel) Simon.

Ethel lived the majority of her life in Martinsville, IL and had lived in the Bangor, MI area for the past 9 years. She was a member of Saint Catherine’s of Sienna Church in Portage, MI and was a member of the First Christian Church in Martinsville, IL for over 33 years. Ethel wrote poetry and short stories, was a whiz at crossword puzzles, an avid gardener, crocheted and knitted for the family, and loved ice cream. She loved being a mom, grandma, and great grandmother.

She is survived by four children, Lois (Bob) Towne of Bangor, MI; Donald (Sherry) Norman of Allegan, MI; Rick (Kim) Norman of Seaford, DE; Debbie (Rob) Hawley of Edwardsville, IL; twenty three grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Simon of Oak Forest, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Norman; sons, Jim and Craig Norman; brothers, Elmer and Arthur Simon; sister, Evelyn Simon and grandson, David Towne.

The mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Church, 201 S. Walnut St., Bangor, MI with Fr. Rob Johansen, celebrant. Visitation and viewing will be held from 10 to 11 A.M. prior to the service at the D. L. Miller Funeral Home, 258 W. Monroe St., Bangor, MI. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with Pastor David Wilson officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society in Bangor, MI or to the Salvation Army.
