Leonal Quinten Elliott, 92, of Casey, IL passed away at 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at his home. He was born September 30, 1920 in Clark County, IL, the son of Ronald K. Elliott and Freda Lucille Rooks Elliott.
On August 16, 1946, he married Betty Jane Yocom. She passed away on January 27, 1984. They have one daughter, Susan; one son, Greg; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Valerie Endsley. He was preceded by his parents, wife, one granddaughter, Sarah Elliott and brother, Donald C. Elliott.
Leonal graduated from Casey High School in 1938. He served three years with the US Army Medical Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of corporal. He spent 19 months in the European Front stationed in England and Normandy and was involved in five battles, one of which was the Battle of the Bulge.
Leonal graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and the University of Illinois with a Master of Science in Educations in 1956. He became a K-6 grade principal with the Ottawa School District #141 and served there 33 years.
Leonal was a member of the Masonic Lodge #40, Ottawa, IL for over fifty years; a member of the VFW Post 5762, Casey IL; the American Legion, Ottawa, IL; the Kiwanis Club, Ottawa, IL; the First United Methodist Church, Ottawa, IL; the Illinois Principal’s Association; the Clark County Retired Teachers Association and the Round Grove Sportsman’s Club. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, reading, photography, and dancing.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Markwell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Penelope H. Barber officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will be in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL following the service.
