Obituary for Evelyn Van Houten

Evelyn Van Houten, 86, lifelong resident of Martinsville, Illinois, passed away at 3:55 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Heartland Manor in Casey, Illinois. She was born on October 1, 1923 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the daughter of Clarence Emmit Dill and Leah Margaret Guy Dill. On October 19, 1940, she married Olin William Van Houten in Henderson, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1970.


Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Veach of Martinsville, IL; grandsons, David Veach and wife Janet of Westfield, IL; Jeff Veach of Martinsville, IL and Eric Veach of Martinsville, IL; nine great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild; brothers, Bill Dill of Fairmont, IL, Jim Dill of Fort Myers, FL, and Joe Dill of Spokane, WA; sisters, Lois Grissom-Sanchez of Casey, IL and Judy Brooke of Casey, IL; nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 30 years, Olin Van Houten; son in law, Ernest Veach; brothers, Robert Dill and Richard Dill; sister, Doris Craig and grandson, Jim Veach.


Evelyn was a member of the Martinsville First Baptist Church where she had taught Vacation Bible School. She was retired after thirty-two years as an Assembler for TRW. Previously, she was a member of the Martinsville American Legion Auxiliary.





Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, Martinsville, IL with Bro. Art Orndorff officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the Church on Wednesday.
