Leroy Wesley VanWinkle, 84, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Heartland Manor, Casey, IL. He was born August 30, 1926, in rural Crawford County, IL, the son of William Wesley VanWinkle and Elizabeth Woods VanWinkle. On December 31, 1953, he married Norma Jean Waldrop in Robinson, IL.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Norma VanWinkle of Martinsville, IL; son, Gary VanWinkle and wife Cristina of Lawrenceville, IL; daughter, Cheryl Kirk and husband Mike of Casey, IL; sisters, Edna Mendenhall of Robinson, IL, Julie Bradbury of Robinson, IL and Mayme Deatherage of Oblong, IL; grandchildren, Courtney VanWinkle, Clint VanWinkle, Abby Kirk, Lyndsey Kirk and Brittany Kirk. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Leroy was a retired self-employed auto mechanic. He was a US Navy WWII veteran and a member of the Marshall VFW, the Marshall American Legion and Amvets.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, IL with Rev. David Wilson and Rev. Kenney Bass officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites by the Marshall VFW and Marshall American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Greenwell Funeral Home.
