L. Cathelene Updegraff, 87, of Westfield, Illinois passed from this life to her heavenly home at 1:50 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Paris Community Hospital, Paris, Illinois with her family at her bedside. She was born on April 18, 1920 in Clark County, Illinois, the daughter of George W. Lovell and Lillie M. Fitzpatrick Lovell. On September 3, 1940 in Henderson, Kentucky, she married Bruce Edward Updegraff; he passed away on August 10, 1992. To this union, two daughters and two sons were born.

Survivors include sons, Ray Updegraff and wife Norma of Ashmore, IL and Dennis Updegraff and wife Deb of Westfield, IL; daughter, Treva Ayers and husband Tom of Chrisman, IL; brother, Lawrence Lovell and wife Maxine of Ashmore, IL; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband, Bruce of fifty-two years, her nine-year-old daughter, Ara Merle Updegraff and sisters, Leona Bunch, Oyia VanSickle and Ozeta Brown, preceded her.

Cathelene lived all of her life in the Westfield area. She was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. At Christmas her family always had great expectations of eating her warm pinwheel cookies. She also had a "green thumb." One daughter-in-law always remarked that she could make a fence post bloom in six weeks. To three of her grandchildren, she will always be known as "Grandma Great." Cathelene was a member of the Westfield United Methodist Church and a member of the Loyal Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2007 at the Westfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Shelquist officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Westfield, Illinois. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at the Markwell Chapel, Westfield, Illinois.
