Obituary for Lynn Edward Kimbrough

Lynn Edward Kimbrough, 63, of Casey, IL passed away at 8:47 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. He was born October 16, 1948 in Phoenix, AZ, the son of Harvey Joe Kimbrough, Sr. and Icel Mae Stewart Kimbrough. On March 27, 1974, he married Susan Annette Clough in Martinsville, IL.

Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Susan Kimbrough of Casey, IL; daughter, Sonya Kimbrough of Robinson, IL; son, Josh Kimbrough of Winnsboro, SC; mother, Icel Mae Kimbrough of Youngstown, FL; sister, Christine Campbell and husband Jan of Youngstown, FL; brother, Harvey Joe Kimbrough, Jr. of Youngstown, FL and grandchildren, Faith and Jase Hammond and Maverick Fann. He was preceded in death by his father.

Lynn was a US Navy veteran. He was retired from environmental control at Eastern Illinois University and attended the Martinsville Baptist Church. He was a member of the Martinsville American Legion and was a member of the Forty and Eight veteran’s organization. He worked on offshore drilling platforms for over ten years off the shores of Brazil and in the Gulf of Mexico on the Rowan Paris Platform Rig, when he retired from Rowan Co., Inc.

He was a former little league football coach in Martinsville, IL; a former Boy Scout troop leader in West Bay, FL and Martinsville, IL, where he enjoyed teaching the youth life skills. He was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan, “That’s an understatement!” In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, camping, woodworking, dancing and making kiln pottery.

The joy of his life was playing and loving his time spent with his grandchildren; putting them on the tractor, pulling them for wagon rides and having them as his little helpers feeding the horses, playing softball, baseball and football, swimming and attending movies.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL with Brother Art Orndorff officiating. Military Honors by the Casey VFW and the Hazel Dell American Legion will conclude the service. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
