Obituary for Officer K-9 Officer Nitro

K-9 Officer Nitro, K-9 partner of Lt. Brent Clapp of Casey, IL passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012 in Casey, IL at the age of 12. Nitro served with the Casey Police Department for ten years before retiring in 2012.

Nitro was a German Shepard born in Czechoslovakia. He became a member of the Casey Police Department in 2002, at the age of 16 months. He was the first K-9 Officer for the Casey Police Department, serving with Lt. Clapp from 2002 until 2012. Nitro has received many awards and accommodations during his career. Many surrounding agencies used Nitro to find narcotics and for his excellent tracking ability. He searched the schools in the area to keep drugs out of our schools and keep the children safe.

A Memorial Service honoring Nitro will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL with Rev. Keith Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL with graveside military honors.

Nitro will be sadly missed by the Clapp family, his Casey Police Department family and the entire community.
